VISA-FREE ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
- Entry into and exit from Türkiye must be made through border gates with a valid passport or a travel document replacing a passport. The passenger must present their document to the authorities responsible for entry and exit controls. The validity period of the passport or travel document must continue for at least 60 days from the end of the permitted visa-free stay. Document and validity exceptions arising from international agreements or special legislation may also apply.
- The duration of stay provided under the visa exemption may not exceed a total of 90 days in any 180-day period, unless a shorter period is specified in the relevant visa regime. The use of two different passports does not reset this total period.
- Border authorities may ask the passenger to explain the purpose of entry into Türkiye, transit through Türkiye, or stay in Türkiye, and, when necessary, to present documents supporting this. The passenger must have valid health insurance covering the duration of stay and sufficient, regular financial means. Entry ban, objection related to public order or security, public health threat, forged or invalid documents, unexplained travel purpose, or unpaid debts and fines arising from previous violations may result in refusal of entry into the country.
- Passengers arriving by ship at seaports and who will only visit the port city of entry or surrounding provinces for tourist purposes may be granted a port city entry permit of up to 72 hours. This document is not considered a visa, may only be used for tourist visits around the relevant port, and must be returned to the competent authority upon exit.
E-VISA APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
- The e-visa application is made through the official electronic application system. During the application, the country of issuance of the travel document, the type of travel document, and the planned date of entry into Türkiye are selected. Identity, passport or travel document, communication, and travel information must be entered completely and accurately as written in the documents. Eligibility conditions and any additional documents are shown by the system personally after the selections are made; there is no single universal document list valid for all applicants.
- The validity period of the passport or document replacing a passport must continue for at least 60 days from the end of the stay permitted by the e-visa. The validity period of the e-visa, the permitted duration of stay, and whether it is single or multiple entry vary according to the country of issuance of the travel document and the type of document.
- If the application is required to be supported by a valid visa or residence permit from a specific other country, this document must be valid in terms of duration on the date of entry into Türkiye. A single-entry visa, whether used or unused, may be accepted as a supporting document as long as its validity date covers the day of entry into Türkiye. Electronic visas issued by other countries are not accepted as supporting documents.
- E-visa can only be used for tourist or commercial travel. For work, study, and other special travel purposes, an application for a consular visa must be made to the relevant Turkish foreign mission. E-visa cannot be obtained from within Türkiye.
- Payment can be made with a credit or debit card bearing the Mastercard, Visa, or UnionPay logo. The card does not have to be issued in the name of the applicant; the card must support the 3D Secure system and be open to international transactions. After the e-mail address is verified, the confirmation link must be opened and the payment must be completed within 24 hours. If payment is not made within the period, the application expires and a new application must be created.
- The e-visa fee varies depending on the country of issuance of the travel document and the type of document. Although it is possible to make the application at any date before travel, it is recommended that it be completed at least 48 hours before the date of departure.
- If changes need to be made to the information provided in the application or to the travel date, the existing e-visa cannot be changed; a new application must be made and a new e-visa obtained. For a child, a passport or travel document issued in the child's own name must be present, and a separate e-visa or consular visa must be obtained in the child's name.
- The download link for the approved e-visa is displayed on the last screen of the application and sent to the applicant's e-mail address. Although the e-visa can be checked electronically in the border system, it is recommended that a printed or digital copy of the document be carried during travel against system disruptions. Having an e-visa does not provide a definitive right of entry into Türkiye.
VISA ON ARRIVAL REQUIREMENTS
- Visa on arrival is possible only for passengers who can benefit from this right under the current visa regime and who meet the relevant conditions. The passenger must present a valid passport or travel document replacing a passport to the border officials. The validity period of the document must continue for at least 60 days from the end of the stay permitted by the issued visa.
- A passenger arriving at the border gate without a visa may be granted an exceptional border visa if they can document that they will leave Türkiye within the permitted period. The competent authority may examine the onward or next country travel ticket, purpose of travel, accommodation arrangements, sufficient financial means, and other supporting documents. The issuance of a border visa depends on the decision of the governorship to which the border gate is affiliated or the border police unit to which this authority is delegated.
- Under the general border visa rule, a stay permit of up to 15 days is granted unless a different period is specified. However, under the current special visa regime, some visas issued at the border may have different validity, duration of stay, and number of entries. The period applicable to the passenger must be determined based on the relevant official visa regime and the document issued at the border.
- Valid health insurance covering the duration of stay is among the general entry conditions. In the case of a border visa, the health insurance requirement may be waived only if humanitarian reasons exist. Visa on arrival does not provide a definitive right of admission to the country.
- These details may vary depending on the passenger's travel document, the relevant visa regime, and the border gate used.
CONSULAR VISA APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
- The application must be made to the Turkish embassy or consulate responsible for the country of which the applicant is a citizen or in which they are legally present. In the pre-application system, the application country, the competent foreign mission, the purpose of travel, and the visa type must be selected; the electronic form must be filled out, and the photograph and documents required by the system must be uploaded. After the application is completed, the generated pre-application form must be downloaded and signed, and an appointment must be made using the passport number and the application reference number.
- The applicant's passport or travel document replacing a passport must be valid for at least 60 days from the end of the requested duration of stay. Persons who wish to work, study, or stay in Türkiye for purposes other than tourist and commercial travel must apply for a consular visa appropriate to their purpose. Different document lists may apply for purposes such as tourist visit, commercial activity, meeting, conference, cultural or sporting event, official visit, single or double transit, study, internship, work, family reunification, medical treatment, accompaniment, transportation, and maritime.
- The applicant must have valid health insurance covering the duration of stay. The purpose of travel must be explained and sufficient, regular financial means must be demonstrated. The period that the bank account statement must cover, the minimum amount that must be in the account, the accepted income document, and the minimum coverage of health insurance vary depending on the mission applied to, the visa type, and the purpose of travel.
- If an invitation letter is submitted in a tourist visa application, the letter must include the Turkish Republic identification number of the inviting person, clear identification details, information of the invited persons, permanent address, contact number, duration and purpose of travel, and the relationship between the parties. If the inviting party is a company or organization, the organization's tax registration document must be submitted. The inviting person or organization must state that they will cover accommodation and meal expenses and assume responsibility related to the invitation. Even if an invitation letter exists, the applicant must have sufficient or regular income.
- In an application made for work purposes, the passport, visa application form, and employer's letter must be submitted. After the application is made, the employer must transmit the work permit documents requested from them to the relevant labor authority within ten business days. Other work-related documents are determined according to the nature of the application.
- For applicants under eighteen years of age, the official written consent of both parents must be submitted. If the parents are divorced, an official document showing custody; if one of the parents has died, a document confirming the death may be requested. The birth certificate, documents showing family ties, translation, notarization, apostille, or legalization requirements are determined according to the checklist of the mission applied to and the visa type.
- The foreign mission may request additional documents, additional explanations, personal application, or an interview during the application.
- It is recommended to apply at least one month before travel. For complete applications, the maximum evaluation period specified in the legislation is 90 days; the actual processing time may vary depending on the mission, visa type, security or pre-authorization review, and the date of completion of documents. A visa issued by a consulate must be used no later than six months. The validity dates on the visa, the permitted duration of stay, and the number of entries must also be taken into account. The maximum duration of stay that consulates can issue is 90 days within each 180-day period.
- In the 2026 central fee schedule, the single-entry visa fee has been published as 9,376.40 TL, and the multiple-entry visa fee as 31,410.00 TL. However, whether the application fee will be collected, the exact amount to be paid, the local currency, and any service fee are determined according to the principle of reciprocity and the foreign mission applied to. If the application is rejected, the paid visa fee is not refunded.
- The number and size of photographs, background color, date of photograph, digital file format, number of blank passport pages, passport copies to be submitted, identity document, residence permit, flight reservation, accommodation proof, bank account statement, employment or student documents, travel itinerary, and translation or certification conditions are determined in the checklist created according to the applicant's country of residence, purpose of travel, visa type, and competent mission.
- The issuance of a visa does not provide a definitive right of entry into Türkiye. Border authorities may re-evaluate the validity of the document, the purpose of travel, health insurance, financial means, and whether entry conditions continue to be met.
Transit Visa Requirements
- If the passenger will not leave the international airport transit area and will not pass through Türkiye border control, they do not normally need to obtain an entry visa. However, passengers in the transit area may be subject to document checks by the competent authorities, and an airport transit visa requirement may be imposed for certain passenger groups.
- If it is necessary to leave the transit area, reclaim baggage, proceed to another airport, or pass through Türkiye border control, the passenger must have an appropriate transit visa, e-visa, consular visa, or visa exemption according to their situation. Türkiye issues single transit and double transit visa categories.
- The application for a consular transit visa is made to the Turkish foreign mission responsible for the country where the applicant is a citizen or legally present, through the consular pre-application system. The passport or travel document must remain valid for at least 60 days beyond the end of the requested transit stay. The competent mission may request flight reservations, detailed itinerary, a ticket showing departure from Türkiye, and a visa, residence permit, or other travel document proving the right to enter the destination country.
- Airport transit visas may be issued by consulates for use within no more than six months from the date of issuance. The permitted duration of transit stay, the number of entries, and the route that may be used are specified on the issued visa.
- In the 2026 central fee tariff, the single transit visa fee is published as 9,376.40 TL and the double transit visa fee as 18,813.80 TL. Whether the fee is applied, the exact amount to be paid, the local currency, and the payment method vary according to the principle of reciprocity and the mission to which the application is made.
