Visa-Free Entry Requirements
- A passenger benefiting from a visa exemption must carry the valid travel document accepted under the regional regulation or bilateral agreement on which the exemption is based. The regional free movement regulation provides for travel with a biometric passport or biometric identity card. For exemptions granted to diplomatic, official or service passports, the appropriate passport type specified in the agreement must be used.
- A valid yellow fever vaccination must be present on the international vaccination card. Health authorities may request the presentation of the original international vaccination certificate.
- The maximum permitted duration of stay may vary depending on the agreement on which the exemption is based and the type of passport used.
- Visa exemption does not provide an automatic right of admission to the country. The travel document and exemption conditions may be rechecked at the point of entry.
E-Visa Application Requirements
- The e-visa application is made through the official online portal. The applicant must first create an account with an email address, answer the questions on the online application form, upload the required documents, pay the visa and service fees online, and download the e-visa document or receipt generated at the end of the process.
- The biographic page of the valid passport containing personal information and photo must be uploaded. The portal's document and arrival pages state that the passport must be valid for at least six months or 180 days from the expected date of entry. Meeting the longer 180-day period during travel ensures compliance with the control requirement on the arrival page.
- For a tourist e-visa application, the passport biographic page, hotel reservation or other accommodation proof, travel insurance, the last three months' bank account statement certified by the bank, yellow fever vaccination certificate, return flight ticket, passport-type photograph, and, if any, visas issued within the last three months must be submitted.
- For a business purpose e-visa application, in addition to the documents required for a tourist application, an invitation letter or a company letterhead explaining the commercial reason for the travel must be submitted.
- The application photograph must be recent, color, clear, properly lit, and taken from the front. The face must be centered and clearly visible; eyes must be open; the photograph must have no shadow, blurriness, excessive brightness or darkness, creases, background scenery, sunglasses, lens reflection, or any element covering the face.
- The e-visa fee is 50 USD. An additional 25 USD VFS service fee, excluding taxes, is added. Fees are paid online and are non-refundable.
- The announced processing time for applications is 72 hours. No binding maximum period has been published regarding whether this period may be extended in case of missing documents, additional review, or security check.
- The permitted duration of stay with a short-term visa for tourism purposes cannot exceed 90 days. With a business visa, a 90-day stay may be permitted and this period may be extended by an additional 90 days.
- For accommodation visas, entry into the country must be made within a period not exceeding half of the stay duration determined for the relevant category from the date of issuance of the visa. A visa not used within this period may automatically lose its validity.
- The e-visa is a published practice only for entry by air through Malabo International Airport.
- Upon entry into the country, a valid passport, a copy of the valid e-visa, and accommodation proof such as a hotel document or indication of staying with family must be carried. The immigration officer may request a return ticket, hotel reservation, and other documents verifying the purpose of travel.
- The original international yellow fever vaccination certificate must be kept ready.
- The competent immigration authority may request additional information or documents. The issuance of a visa does not grant a definitive right of admission to the country; entry conditions may be reassessed at border control.
Consular Visa Application Requirements
- Consular visas may be issued for tourism, business activity, family or friend visits, humanitarian and emergency situations, medical reasons, congresses, meetings, seminars, study, employment, religious activities, and other special purposes. The application documents vary depending on the purpose of travel and the jurisdiction of the embassy or consulate where the application is made.
- The applicant must submit a valid passport or a valid travel document recognized by the competent authorities. The Embassy in Washington requests an original passport valid for at least six months and at least one blank page. The Embassy in London requires the passport to be valid for at least six months after the return date from Equatorial Guinea.
- The application form must be completed in full in line with the information in the passport, dated, and signed by the applicant. At missions using an electronic form, the copy obtained after submitting the form online may be printed and submitted together with other documents.
- A recent color passport photograph must be submitted. The Berlin application form uses the size 35 × 45 mm.
- Some missions request a photocopy of the passport together with the original passport submitted.
- Applicants who are not citizens of the country where the application is made may be required to provide a valid residence permit or a document showing that they legally reside in that country.
- A recent judicial record or criminal record may need to be submitted. The missions in Washington and London request a judicial record certificate issued by the competent authority in the place of residence and not older than three months. The mission in Berlin requests the original of the document.
- An international vaccination card must be submitted. The yellow fever vaccination must be recorded on this card.
- A flight itinerary, round-trip reservation, or other transportation document showing departure from the country must be submitted. A hotel reservation, temporary address, or accommodation proof showing staying with the inviting person may also be requested.
- For invited travels, an invitation letter issued by a government authority, a registered legal entity, or a person located in Equatorial Guinea may be submitted. Some missions require the invitation letter to be approved by the Ministry of National Security of Equatorial Guinea.
- The invitation letter must explain the purpose of travel, the invited person's information, duration of stay, accommodation address, and who will cover the expenses. The mission may request a copy of the passport or identity card of the inviting natural person and documents showing the family connection.
- For tourist applications, sufficient financial means must be proven. The Embassy in Washington requires at least 1,000 USD to be shown for each month of stay. The Embassy in London, on the other hand, requests an account statement with a minimum balance of 2,000 GBP.
- For business travels, a letter issued by the employer explaining the purpose of travel and, when necessary, undertaking to cover the applicant's expenses must be submitted. An invitation letter from the company or institution in Equatorial Guinea may also be requested. Some missions require this invitation to be formalized by the Ministry of National Security.
- For humanitarian or emergency visas, the reason for entry, such as need for treatment, court attendance, death or health condition of a relative, must be proven with official documents. A 90-day stay may be permitted with this visa, and the period may be extended by an additional 90 days.
- For congress, meeting, or seminar visas, an invitation issued by the organizer of the event must be submitted. The permitted duration of stay in this category is 30 days and may be extended by an additional 30 days.
- The form of a minor applicant must be signed by the legal representative or guardian. A separate application is made for each passport. In applications based on a family connection, a birth certificate, marriage certificate, or other documents showing the family relationship may be requested.
- Prior approval or legalization by Equatorial Guinea authorities may be required for invitation letters and certain corporate documents.
- The application fee and payment method vary by mission. The Embassy in Washington charges 200 USD for 30, 60, or 90-day tourist and business visas; 300 USD for 90 to 180-day visas. The expedited service fee is 50 USD. Payment can be made online or by mail transfer, and fees are non-refundable.
- At the Embassy in Washington, the normal processing time is 5 to 7 days after receipt of the complete file. Expedited processing may take 1 to 3 days.
- A visa issued by the Embassy in Washington must be used within 60 days from its issuance. Different validity periods may apply for other missions or visa categories.
- Missions that accept applications by mail may request a pre-paid return envelope or shipping label together with the original passport. Whether the applicant's personal presence is mandatory varies by mission.
- The competent mission may request additional documents and has the authority to approve or deny the application even if the submitted documents are complete. The issuance of a visa does not provide an automatic right of entry to the country.
Transit Visa Requirements
- Transit and airport transit visas appear as separate options on the official consular application form. A double transit visa may also be issued.
- For a transit application, a valid passport, completed and signed visa form, photograph, and the general consular documents requested by the mission being applied to must be submitted. The Berlin application form has a 35 × 45 mm photograph area.
- The application form must indicate the transit route, first entry border point, the means of transport to be used, arrival and departure dates, and the final destination country.
- If the final destination country requires a visa or entry permit, the validity date and issuing authority information regarding this permit must be provided. The competent mission may request the original or copy of the document showing the right to enter the final country.
- An onward travel ticket or confirmed transportation reservation must be submitted. If entry into the country is to be made during transit, accommodation or temporary address information may also be requested.
- In the published schedule of the Embassy in Berlin, the transit visa fee is 100 euros and payment is made in cash. This fee is outdated and relates only to the jurisdiction of that mission.
