Visa-Free Entry Requirements

  • Passengers benefiting from visa-free entry must carry a valid passport or travel document recognised by the Republic of Cyprus. The passenger must be able to explain the purpose of travel and accommodation arrangements at border control, have sufficient financial means for the duration of stay and for return or onward travel, and must not be among persons prohibited from entering the country.
  • Visa-free entry does not grant an automatic right of admission to the country. Border authorities may request accommodation document, return or onward ticket, invitation details and proof of sufficient financial means. Short stay is a maximum of 90 days in any 180-day period.
  • The separate minimum validity period and number of blank pages to be applied to passports of visa-free passengers are not specified precisely in the central official source. The passport must be valid for the duration of travel, in usable condition and a document recognised by the Republic of Cyprus.
  • Entry into the Republic of Cyprus must be made through officially recognised legal entry points. The legal entry points are Larnaka and Paphos international airports and the ports of Larnaka, Limassol, Latsi and Paphos.

Consular Visa Application Requirements

  • The application must, as a rule, be made to the embassy, consulate or application centre authorised by the mission of the Republic of Cyprus responsible for the country where the applicant legally resides. The application method may vary by mission, such as in-person application, authorised application centre or prior electronic submission of documents.
  • The visa application form must be completed with full and accurate information and signed by the applicant. Forms for minors must be signed by parents or legal guardians, or the parental consent requested by the mission must be submitted. The form includes personal information, travel document details, occupation, purpose of travel, number of entries, planned dates of entry and departure, accommodation or inviting person details, and explanation of how travel expenses will be covered.
  • The travel document must be recognised by the Republic of Cyprus, be valid for at least three months beyond the planned date of departure from Cyprus, contain at least two blank pages and have been issued within the last ten years. If multiple journeys are planned, the three-month period is calculated from the last planned date of departure.
  • A valid residence permit, visa or equivalent proof of residence showing legal residence in the country where the application is made must be submitted. The mission may request copies of the biographical information page of the passport, pages containing previous Cyprus or Schengen visas and entry-exit stamps.
  • A recent passport-size or biometric photograph must be submitted. The exact single technical measurement of the photograph valid centrally for all missions is not specified. Some current mission checklists request one photograph measuring 3.5 × 4.5 cm, with white or light background, taken within the last six months and compliant with ICAO standards. The checklist of the mission where the application is made must be followed.
  • For short-stay visa applications, biometric data such as photograph and fingerprints may be collected. Fingerprints are normally re-collected at 59-month intervals. Applicants from whom biometric data must be collected may be required to apply in person.
  • Depending on the purpose of travel, round-trip or onward flight reservation, hotel reservation, other accommodation proof, travel itinerary, business meeting or event document, invitation for family or friend visit, employment document, salary information, student document, company documents or professional status documents may be requested. It is recommended not to purchase tickets definitively before the visa decision is made.
  • The applicant must demonstrate that they have sufficient financial means to cover the costs of stay and return. Bank statements, bank letters, salary information or sponsor documents may be accepted. The number of months the bank statement must cover and the minimum amount that must be in the account are not specified precisely in the central official source. Since mission checklists may request three or six months of account movements, the current checklist of the application location must be applied.
  • If the applicant will be hosted by a person, the 'Assumption of Responsibility to Host' form completed by the host in Cyprus and certified by an authorised certifying officer may be requested. The host's identity or passport document, proof of legal residence in Cyprus, address details and proof of financial sufficiency may also be required. Depending on the nature of the file, a bank guarantee from the host may be requested.
  • Travel health insurance must be valid in Cyprus and cover the entire planned duration of stay. The minimum coverage amount is 30,000 euros per person. The policy is expected to cover emergency medical treatment, hospitalisation and repatriation for medical reasons.
  • For minor applicants, a birth certificate, passport copies of the parents or legal guardian and a notarised or authorised consent from the parent not travelling with the child may be requested. If there is sole custody, an official document showing the custody or why the other parent's consent cannot be provided must be given.
  • The requirements for translation, notarisation, legalisation or apostille of documents vary depending on the mission where the application is made and the country of issuance of the document. No single rule applicable centrally and to all applications has been published for these procedures.
  • The fee for a standard short-stay Category C visa and airport transit visa is 90 euros. The standard fee for children between six and twelve years of age is 45 euros, and for children under six years of age it is zero euros. Different fees or exemptions may apply due to visa facilitation agreements, family relationship or special application categories. The accepted payment method is not specified precisely in the central official source; the method varies by mission or authorised application centre. The application centre service fee may be separate from the visa fee.
  • Applications may generally be made no more than six months before the travel date and must be submitted no later than 15 days before the planned travel. Applications from seafarers may be accepted up to nine months in advance. The general decision period is a maximum of 15 days; for individual files requiring additional examination or further documents, the period may be extended up to 45 days. Some missions announce these periods on a working day basis.
  • The short-stay Category C visa may be used for tourism, business, family or friend visit, official visit, medical reasons and similar non-immigration purposes. The total duration of stay may not exceed 90 days in any 180-day period. Applicants proving the need for frequent travel may be issued a multiple-entry visa with validity up to five years; however, the 90/180 limit applies for each stay.
  • The long-stay Category D visa may provide stay up to one year. For applications for employment, study, family reunification or long-term residence, the list of documents is determined according to the purpose of travel and the relevant immigration permit. There is no single central document list applicable to all purposes for these applications.
  • A Cyprus visa is valid only for the territory of the Republic of Cyprus and does not grant the right of free movement within the Schengen Area. The issuance of a visa does not constitute a guarantee of definite admission to the country. The consulate or border authorities may request additional documents, personal interview or explanation.

Visa on Arrival Requirements

  • Visa on arrival or at the border is not a regular method of travel. Short-stay Category C visas and airport transit visas may be issued exceptionally only in urgent cases, with the approval of the Director of the Civil Registry and Migration Department, and upon arrival at the legal entry points of the Republic of Cyprus.
  • The applicant must explain the urgent and exceptional situation, present a valid travel document and prove the purpose of travel and the planned stay or transit route. Documents showing accommodation, return or onward ticket, sufficient financial means and the right to enter the final destination country may be requested depending on the case.
  • The standard fee for a Category C visa issued at the border is 90 euros. In cases where travel health insurance cannot be obtained at the border crossing, the insurance requirement may exceptionally be waived. Visas issued at the border cannot be extended.
  • A border visa may only be processed at Larnaka and Paphos international airports and officially recognised legal ports. Travel should not be undertaken assuming that a visa on arrival will be granted without obtaining emergency approval.

Transit Visa Requirements

  • An Airport Transit Visa allows transfer between two international flights without leaving the international transit area of an airport in Cyprus. This visa does not grant the right to enter the territory of the Republic of Cyprus. For transfers requiring exit from the transit area, an appropriate short-stay entry visa may be required.
  • The application form must be completed and signed in full; valid travel document, recent photograph, proof of legal residence in the country of application, biometric data and visa fee must be submitted. The travel document must be valid for at least three months after the planned final date of departure, contain two blank pages and have been issued within the last ten years.
  • A confirmed or verifiable onward flight reservation must be submitted. If a visa, residence permit or entry permit for the final destination country is required, this document must also be attached to the application. The consulate may request additional documents showing the authenticity of the transit route and the right to enter the next country.
  • The standard fee for an Airport Transit Visa is 90 euros. For children between six and twelve years of age the standard fee is 45 euros, for children under six years of age it is zero euros. The processing time is generally a maximum of 15 days, but may be extended up to 45 days for files requiring additional examination.
