Visa-Free Entry Requirements

Consular Visa Application Requirements

The competent authority may request other supporting documents.
  • The first-class business visa can be used to explore business opportunities or prepare for investment. The visa is valid for up to 60 days, multiple-entry and as a rule not extendable. The application fee is 100 US dollars.
  • For a second-class business visa, in addition to these, a certified copy of the company's trade registry, economic activity permit, document showing the company's tax debt status, physical and mental health report, and an original criminal record certificate from the country of which the applicant is a citizen or where they have resided for more than one year are required.
  • The second-class business visa is initially valid for six months, multiple-entry and, provided the conditions continue, may be extended in two-year periods. The initial issuance fee is 150 US dollars.

Work visa

  • For a work visa, a travel document, proof of financial adequacy, return or departure ticket from the country, accommodation declaration, and documents explaining the employment purpose must be submitted.
  • Depending on the activity, an approved employment or service contract, short-term volunteer agreement, professional qualification documents, company trade registry, economic activity permit, and document showing the company's tax debt status may be requested.
  • The applicant must submit a physical and mental health report and an original criminal record certificate from the country of which they are a citizen or where they have resided for more than one year.
  • The work visa is valid for a maximum of one year and multiple-entry. The initial issuance fee is 100 US dollars. The central page shows the total official processing time as 30 days; 15 days of this are allocated for review by the Immigration Service and 15 days for the relevant labor authority.

Temporary stay visas

  • Applicants for study purposes must submit a travel document, financial adequacy, return or departure ticket, accommodation declaration, documents showing the study purpose, acceptance or enrollment declaration from the school or university, health report and criminal record certificate. The visa is issued according to the study period, multiple-entry and may be extended for a six-month period. The fee is 50 US dollars.
  • Applicants for cultural, sporting, scientific, research, journalism or highly skilled specialist activities must submit documents showing the purpose, duration and conditions of the activity. An approved employment or service contract, professional qualification certificate, document showing the tax status of the affiliated organization, health report and criminal record certificate may be requested. The visa may be valid for the duration of the assignment or contract and for a maximum of one year.
  • For a long-term volunteer application, a volunteer agreement, financial adequacy, accommodation, return arrangements, health report and criminal record certificate must be submitted. This visa is valid for a maximum of 120 days and is multiple-entry.

  • This visa cannot be obtained by applying at the border. The application must be made to the diplomatic mission or consulate responsible for the country of usual residence. If there is no mission, the application is submitted to the Consular Affairs unit in Dili.
  • The residence entry visa is single-entry and permits a stay of up to six months. The application fee is 50 US dollars. The consular authority may issue a visa authorization letter; the visa sticker is printed on the passport by the Immigration Service when the authorization letter is presented at the border.
  • The consular authority may request different forms, additional documents, notarization or consular certification, translation, an interview or additional examination depending on the nature of the application. Transit Visa Requirements

  • A transit visa is used for travelers who will continue to another country through the territory of Timor-Leste or who will transfer between two international transport connections.

  • The airport transit visa is used only for travelers who will continue their connecting flight by accessing the international transit area of the airport. The airport transit visa is valid for up to 72 hours, non-extendable, and costs 20 US dollars.
