About D-8
D-8 is an organization for economic cooperation among major developing countries with large Muslim populations and expanding trade links. It was established in Istanbul in 1997 after preparatory meetings that brought together countries from Asia, Africa and the wider Middle East. Azerbaijan later joined the group, widening the platform beyond the original eight members while keeping the D-8 name. This page uses that institutional grouping to compare passport mobility without changing the Passport Reports methodology.
The organization focuses on practical cooperation in trade, industry, agriculture, transport, energy, finance and other development fields. Its members do not form a single border area, customs union or common travel regime, so passport strength still depends on each country’s separate visa relationships. That makes a focused passport ranking useful, because the countries share a cooperation forum but not the same international mobility profile. The comparison keeps every passport inside the same D-8 frame while preserving each country’s individual score.
The D-8 ranking view compares only passports from D-8 countries, while the global view keeps each passport’s worldwide position visible. The figures come from the central Passport Reports system, including visa-free destinations, visa on arrival, eTA access and visa-required destinations. The same ranking order and tie-break logic used across the website remain unchanged. When the central mobility records are updated, the D-8 figures on this page update automatically.
