About ASEAN
The Association of Southeast Asian Nations is a regional organization that brings together the countries of Southeast Asia for cooperation and dialogue. It was founded in 1967 and has grown into a wider community covering political, economic, social and cultural fields. Timor-Leste’s accession expanded the group to 11 members and added a new chapter to regional integration. This page uses that institutional grouping to compare passport mobility without changing the Passport Reports methodology.
ASEAN works through regular meetings, agreed principles and practical cooperation among its member states. Its agenda includes economic integration, connectivity, education, disaster management, public health, regional stability and people-to-people links. The organization does not create passport scores, but its country list provides a clear Southeast Asian frame for travel comparison. Each passport remains measured through the same central mobility records used across the site.
The ASEAN ranking view compares only passports from ASEAN countries, while the global view preserves each passport’s worldwide position. The figures come from the central Passport Reports system, including visa-free destinations, visa on arrival, eTA access and visa-required destinations. The same ranking order and tie-break logic used across the website remain unchanged. When the central records are updated, the ASEAN figures on this page update automatically.
