Passport Reports is an independent, nonprofit information and research platform that helps people better understand their travel options around the world. It presents passport strength, travel access between countries and visa requirements in a clear format for journalists, researchers, travelers and anyone interested in the subject. It does not represent any government, public body or official visa authority.

Our platform grew out of the need for a fairer, more consistent, transparent and understandable methodology for assessing global travel access. Our aim goes beyond placing countries in a ranking table: we explain what the ranking measures, which data it uses and what travel options different passports offer their holders. We see this approach as a responsibility to make an independent, verifiable contribution to knowledge about global mobility.

FROM RESEARCH BEGUN IN 2020 TO A PUBLIC PLATFORM

Passport Reports has its roots in independent data collection, processing and comparison work that began in 2020. In the early years, our work was not published on a public website; it was developed for use in research on passports, visa policies and travel access between countries. The work carried out during this period shaped the data approach and research expertise behind today’s platform.

In 2023, we began actively using AI-assisted systems in our research and data processing. These technologies accelerated our work by helping us compile, compare and process verifiable information more quickly. Data prepared during this period was shared and used in academic research and assessments.

In 2026, we made this body of work publicly accessible through passportreports.com. The data framework previously used in research became a platform open to everyone, offering country reports, passport comparisons, visa requirements and multilingual explanations. Our research dates back to 2020, while public publishing through our website began in 2026.

AN EDITORIAL STRUCTURE INFORMED BY INTERNATIONAL EXPERIENCE

Our work benefits from contributions and advice from independent professionals working in the United States, the United Kingdom, Belgium and Japan. This international network includes journalists with experience in international relations, professional editors and academics specializing in international relations.

Professional experience and expertise from different countries help us assess information, understand local practices and communicate clearly. While our advisers’ insights support the development of our work, responsibility for preparing and publishing content rests with the Passport Reports editorial team. These contributions do not give any country or institution preferential influence over the rankings.

We use AI as a tool to support research and data processing, rather than as an authority that replaces human expertise or editorial responsibility. When using technology, our guiding criteria are whether the resulting information can be verified and whether it is presented to readers in the correct context.

INDEPENDENCE, EQUAL CRITERIA AND AN OPEN METHODOLOGY

Our independence gives us both our strength and our resolve to keep working. We do not seek to favor any country, make a passport appear stronger than it is or rank it below its rightful position. We apply the same classification and assessment rules to every passport. For us, equal treatment means assessing countries under the same conditions and against the same criteria, rather than giving them the same results.

Our Methodology page explains the principles behind our rankings, how we handle entry categories and how we resolve ties. We believe users should be able to examine the method behind the results as well as the results themselves. We treat passport rankings as a comparison of specific travel access conditions, rather than a judgment on the overall worth of countries or their citizens.

DYNAMIC DATA TRACKING TRAVEL ACCESS BETWEEN 199 COUNTRIES

With a data framework covering 199 countries, Passport Reports shows where holders of different passports can travel visa-free, with an electronic travel authorization, with a visa on arrival or with a visa obtained in advance. Users can explore both the options their own passport offers and the entry requirements their intended destination applies to holders of different passports.

We do not treat our data as tables produced at fixed intervals and then left unchanged. We use a dynamic system built around continuous monitoring and real-time updates. Once a change has been verified and its effective date checked, we incorporate it into our current data system and reflect it on the relevant pages. Our commitment to prompt updates does not mean publishing unverified information or presenting a decision that has not yet taken effect as current practice.

Our priority is to present the most up-to-date information possible in a clear, organized and comparable form. We also recognize that a change may be announced, verified and implemented at different times, so our efforts to keep information current go hand in hand with our recommendation to confirm it with official sources.

DIRECT ACCESS TO OFFICIAL SOURCES AND RESPONSIBILITY FOR VERIFICATION

We want our readers to have more than our own explanations to rely on. That is why the relevant country pages and our Official Visa Sources section provide direct links to authorized government bodies, immigration authorities, foreign affairs departments and official visa information pages. These links make it easier to reach the original source and check current requirements directly.

Although we update our platform continuously, we strongly recommend checking the latest information on the relevant official government websites before traveling. Where necessary, contact the relevant embassy, consulate or immigration authority. Passport Reports provides research, comparisons and preliminary information; it does not issue visas, decide on applications or guarantee admission to a country. Linking to official bodies does not mean that we represent them or have an institutional affiliation with them.

We believe access to information means more than being able to find it online. It is equally important that users can understand it in their own language. Passport Reports therefore publishes in 34 languages.

Our language editions are developed with input and review from native speakers of the respective languages. Our aim is not simply to transfer words into another language, but to ensure that terminology, explanations and phrasing feel natural and are clear to local readers. We are committed to continually improving every language edition to achieve the highest possible standards of natural expression, accuracy of meaning and terminological consistency.

Passport Reports data has been cited in news coverage in more than 110 countries and continues to be used in international publications. Our country reports and comparisons help journalists, editors and researchers examine differences in passport strength and travel access using concrete data.

We regularly send reports and news bulletins to more than 80,000 media professionals and news organizations that use our data covering 199 countries and have asked to receive our reports. Through these publications, we aim to share not only ranking results, but also the key findings and relevant explanations that help make sense of them.

In our media work, we prioritize presenting data in its proper context and helping readers access current information. We believe it is important that the date, scope and source of data used in news coverage are clear, that older findings are not presented as current and that different entry categories are not confused.

FREE ACCESS AND A NONPROFIT APPROACH

The primary purpose of Passport Reports is to provide the public with clear, usable data on global travel access, rather than to profit from access to information. We do not charge readers to consult our publicly available passport rankings, country reports or visa requirements information. Our research and publishing priorities are not determined by whether users pay or by a particular country’s commercial value.

We do not accept support from undisclosed funds, hidden sponsorships or financing arrangements whose sources are concealed from the public. We assess our independence through both the quality of our content and our openness and accountability regarding relationships that could influence our work.

Our website may occasionally carry advertising and earn revenue from it. Advertising revenue does not mean that our rankings or editorial decisions are for sale. Advertising and independent content are kept separate, and advertisers have no right to change any country’s ranking, data record or assessment. PROFESSIONAL TECHNICAL INFRASTRUCTURE, SEPARATE EDITORIAL RESPONSIBILITY

The web infrastructure for Passport Reports is provided by TOO.ae, a Dubai-based provider of digital services and AI solutions. Our website is hosted through Germany-based Hetzner, while Cloudflare provides an additional layer of security within our infrastructure.

Technical infrastructure and content management are separate areas of responsibility. Technology providers support the platform’s technical operation, while the Passport Reports editorial team, working with input from our advisers, oversees the research approach, content preparation, data assessment and publishing decisions. Using technical services does not mean that the companies concerned endorse our research findings or determine our rankings.
