How Do We Rank It?

The Europe Ranking compares only passports from European countries. The results are re-ranked from 1 within Europe.Global Ranking Methodology: passportreports.com ranks passports by their Mobility Score. The Mobility Score represents the total number of countries that can be entered visa-free, with a visa on arrival, or with an electronic travel authorization. If Mobility Scores are equal, the number of countries accessible without a visa is considered first. If that number is also equal, the number of countries accessible with an electronic travel authorization is considered. If the tie remains, the number of countries accessible with a visa on arrival is considered. If all values are equal, the countries share the same rank. Review the algorithm used in our methodology.

About Europe

Europe spans from the Arctic Circle to the Mediterranean Sea, offering a wide range of climates and landscapes. The continent features rugged coastlines, vast plains, and alpine mountain ranges. Its temperate forests and fertile river valleys have supported dense population centers for centuries. Major cities like Paris, London, and Berlin combine historic architecture with modern urban planning.

The region's cultural structure is shaped by centuries of trade, migration, and political integration. Historical kingdoms, empires, and city-states have left distinct legal and administrative traditions across Europe. Today, the European Union and Schengen Area create a unique framework for mobility and border policies. This blend of shared standards and national sovereignty makes Europe a compelling group for passport comparison.

European cities are known for their dense transport links, including high-speed rail networks and major international airports. Cultural diversity is visible in the mix of languages, cuisines, and architectural styles found across the continent. The natural environment ranges from Mediterranean beaches to Nordic fjords and Central European forests. Europe's global economic and diplomatic influence continues to shape its international travel relationships.
