WTO Member Countries and 2026 Passport Rankings

The World Trade Organization is the global body that sets and administers rules for trade between its members. It began work in 1995 after the Uruguay Round, replacing the older GATT framework with a broader institutional system. Its members include countries and separate customs territories that participate in a rules-based trading order. This page uses the WTO membership frame to compare passport mobility without changing the Passport Reports methodology.

WTO membership does not create a common border, a shared visa zone or a unified travel policy. Each passport still reflects the entry rules, bilateral arrangements and international mobility profile of its issuing country or territory. That makes this comparison useful because a shared trade framework does not produce equal travel access. The ranking keeps WTO members within one institutional list while preserving each passport’s individual score.

The WTO members ranking view compares only the passports represented in the Passport Reports country system, while the global view keeps each passport’s worldwide position visible. The figures come from the central Passport Reports system, including visa-free destinations, visa on arrival, eTA access and visa-required destinations. The same ranking order and tie-break logic used across the website remain unchanged. When the central mobility records are updated, the WTO figures on this page update automatically.
