Visa-Free Entry Requirements
- A valid passport must be presented upon entry to Belize. Under the general visitor entry condition, the passport is required to be valid for at least 30 days after the date of arrival in the country, provided that no transit to another country is made and that the traveler returns to the country of passport issuance immediately after the visit to Belize. If the next country of destination requires six months of passport validity, the validity condition of that country must also be met.
- The traveler must have a return ticket and sufficient financial means to cover the duration of stay.
- Travelers holding a valid multiple-entry United States or Canada visa, or a valid permanent residence card from these countries, and travelers holding a valid multiple-entry Schengen visa may benefit from visa exemption for visits not exceeding 30 days, provided they meet the relevant conditions. The document must be valid and multiple-entry on the date of travel.
- The permitted visa-free duration of stay may vary depending on the basis of the exemption. The official system contains different thresholds of 30, 60, 90 or 180 days. The traveler should check the exact duration applicable to them on the central visa inquiry page based on their nationality and travel document.
- The permitted duration of stay must not be exceeded. Visitors wishing to stay longer may apply to an immigration office before the current permission expires to obtain a 30-day visitor permit extension. The extension fee is 200 Belize dollars. Some travelers may additionally need to obtain an entry visa after certain extension thresholds.
- The online Immigration and Customs Passenger Declaration System is used for entry and exit procedures. The form can be filled out before travel via the official portal.
- Travelers under 18 years of age must travel with a valid passport and parental travel consent. If the child is traveling with only one parent, a notarized travel consent letter issued by the other parent must be presented.
Consular Visa Application Requirements
- The applicant must complete all sections of the official visa application form in full, date and sign it. The signature on the application must match the signature in the passport. Correction fluid must not be used on the form, and forms containing excessive erasures or scratches may not be accepted.
- The form must include the applicant's name, date and place of birth, nationality, marital status, gender, other nationalities, passport number, passport issuance and expiration dates, issuing country, residential address, telephone number, and email address.
- The applicant must also state the number of entries requested, planned travel date, duration of stay, purpose of visit, travel details, address in Belize and contact person. The application form includes purposes of tourism, business, official visit, transit, student, work, and family reunification.
- The application form must also include current employment status, occupation, past service in the armed forces or security field, previous travel to Belize, past visa refusals, entry refusals to the country, deportation status, pending criminal cases, and security-related declarations.
- A valid passport must be submitted and the passport must have more than six months' validity. The original passport and the originals and copies of the required documents must be delivered.
- One passport-type photograph must be submitted.
- The flight itinerary must show the expected date of arrival in Belize and the date of return to the country from which the applicant arrived. The address where the applicant will stay in Belize and local contact information must also be provided in the application form.
- If the applicant is covering their own expenses, they must submit an employment letter issued within the last six months and bank or other financial account documents showing transactions for the last six months. The employment letter must clearly contain the employer's information, monthly salary, and duration of employment.
- If the application is sponsored, the sponsor must complete the official Financial Support Letter. The letter must be signed before a magistrate or authorized justice of the peace and bear a postage stamp to the value of 1.50 Belize dollars.
- The financial support form must contain the sponsor's full name as written on their identity document, address, legal status in Belize, the applicant's name, birth details, nationality, relationship with the sponsor, duration of acquaintance or cohabitation, the sponsor's monthly income, and a declaration that the sponsor undertakes to cover the applicant's expenses.
- The sponsor must submit identity documents proving their legal status. Accepted documents may include, depending on the sponsor's status, a valid Belize passport, voter ID, social security card, passport bearing a permanent residence stamp, or documents showing temporary immigration status and passport.
- If relying on a family relationship with the sponsor, documents proving the relationship such as a birth certificate or marriage certificate must be submitted. The invitation letter must state the purpose of the visit, the duration of stay in Belize, and the relationship between the applicant and the sponsor.
- Both the applicant and the sponsor must submit an employment letter issued within the last six months and financial documents showing account transactions for the last six months. The employment letters must contain the employer's information, monthly salary, and duration of employment.
- Documents not in English must be translated into English by an authorized authority and the translation must be signed. For translations belonging to certain nationality groups, verification by a specific official language center may also be required.
- Applicants residing outside Belize must apply to the nearest Belize embassy or consulate. If the applicant or sponsor is in Belize, the application may only be submitted to the central office in Belmopan. Whether a legal residence document must be submitted in the country of application may vary depending on the relevant diplomatic mission.
- For applications made to the Embassy in Washington, a prior consular appointment must be made and the applicant must appear in person with a complete application file. This procedure has not been published as a universal requirement for all Belize missions.
- The validity period of a single-entry visa is six months, and the validity period of a multiple-entry visa is 12 months. A Belize entry visa provides a legal stay of a maximum of 30 days from the date of entry into the country. For a longer stay, a visitor permit extension must be obtained from the immigration office.
- A multiple-entry visa may be granted to those with temporary status in Belize, regular business or tourism visitors, persons traveling for medical purposes, persons proceeding to a final destination, and members of diplomatic missions, subject to eligibility. A multiple-entry visa is not an automatic entitlement.
- In the central fee schedule, single-entry visa fees vary by nationality as 200, 750, or 3,000 Belize dollars; multiple-entry visa fees as 300, 1,000, or 4,000 Belize dollars. The applicant must confirm the exact amount according to their nationality and the mission where they apply.
- The Embassy in Washington accepts money orders, certified checks, bank drafts, or cash payments made in person; it does not accept personal checks. Additional courier and processing fees apply for Washington applications.
- The Embassy in Washington has published an approximate processing time of 30 business days.
- If children are included in the application, the children's names, dates of birth, nationality, passport numbers, relationship to the applicant, and whether they are traveling together must be written on the form. The diplomatic mission form may be signed by the applicant or guardian, if necessary.
Transit Visa Requirements
- Travelers transiting through Belize to a third country and subject to entry visa requirements must apply for a Belize entry visa for transit purposes. Transit can be selected as a separate travel purpose on the official visa application form.
- All sections of the application form must be completed, the form must be dated and signed, and the signature must match the signature in the passport. A valid passport with more than six months' validity and the originals and copies of the required documents must be submitted.
- The flight itinerary must show the expected date of arrival in Belize and the date of departure from Belize to the final destination country.
- If the transit application is sponsored, a financial support letter, sponsor identity, proof of relationship, invitation letter, employment documents, and bank statements for the last six months are required. If the applicant is covering their own expenses, they must show an employment letter issued within the last six months and account transactions for the last six months.
- The fee is determined according to the single or multiple entry Belize entry visa used and the applicant's nationality.
- A general Belize entry visa provides a legal stay of a maximum of 30 days from the date of entry into the country.
- The traveler must verify their transit visa status from the Belize diplomatic mission based on their nationality, travel document, and itinerary.
