Visa-Free Entry Requirements

  • A traveler traveling visa-free must carry a passport or travel document that is valid and recognized by the Moldovan authorities. The travel document must have been issued within the last ten years, be valid for at least three months after the planned departure date from Moldova, and contain at least two blank pages.
  • The permitted short stay shall not exceed a total of 90 days in any 180-day period, unless a special agreement or arrangement to the contrary exists. Previous stays are included in this calculation.

E-Visa Application Requirements

  • Transit type B and short-stay type C visa applications can be made through the electronic system. Airport transit type A and long-stay type D visas are not issued through the electronic system.

  • The invitation requirement varies depending on the applicant's nationality and legal status. When an invitation is required, an official invitation issued by the General Inspectorate for Migration of Moldova is provided. A valid visa or residence permit issued by certain foreign states may be used in place of the official invitation, provided the relevant conditions are met.
  • For private visit applications, a copy of the inviting person's identity document or valid Moldovan residence permit, and a free-form invitation letter confirming the purpose of the visit are requested.   • For official duty applications, a diplomatic note or a letter from the competent authority confirming the applicant's official status and the official purpose of travel must be provided.
  • For minor applicants, a birth certificate and the legal representative's passport are requested. If the purpose of study falls outside the scope of a short-stay visa, an appropriate long-stay visa must be applied for.
  • The application fee in the electronic system is 40 euros for a type B transit visa, and 60 euros for a type C short-stay visa. The fee is paid online by credit or debit card. Fee exemptions may apply depending on the applicant's status.
  • The examination of an electronic application normally takes a maximum of 10 calendar days. If additional examination is required, the period may be extended up to 20 days. The competent authority may request additional documents, verification, or clarification.
  • The approved e-Visa is sent to the applicant by email in PDF format. The document must be carried in printed form and presented together with the passport at border control. The e-Visa is not affixed to the passport and has the same legal function as a traditional visa.
  • The e-Visa is not restricted to a specific single airport or border crossing point; it may be used at authorized border crossing points of Moldova. However, possession of a visa does not guarantee entry into the country.
  • A type C e-Visa may be issued for one or multiple entries and provides a short stay of up to 90 days in any 180-day period. The stay permitted under a type B transit visa is limited to the time necessary for transit and shall not exceed five days.

Visa on Arrival Requirements

  • There is no general, nationality-based ordinary visa on arrival system in Moldova. A visa may be issued at the border crossing point only in exceptional and unforeseeable circumstances specified by law.
  • An exceptional border visa may be considered: in emergency situations caused by disaster, natural calamity, or accident; in case of death or serious illness of a relative in Moldova; for crew and passengers of a ship or aircraft making a forced landing or docking due to breakdown, adverse weather conditions, or threat of terrorist attack.
  • The applicant must not have been able to obtain the visa in advance and must prove the unforeseeable compulsory reason for entry with official documents. If it is a case of death or serious illness of a relative, a confirmatory document issued by the competent authority must be provided.
  • The applicant must meet the general entry conditions and provide documents showing that they will return to their country of origin or residence or can transit to another country. A return or onward travel ticket, a visa or residence permit showing the right to enter the subsequent country, and documents confirming the compulsory travel reason may be requested.
  • An exceptional visa issued at the border grants a stay of up to 15 days. If issued for transit purposes, the permitted period shall not exceed five days.
  • As a rule, the travel document must be valid for at least three months after the planned departure date from Moldova, issued within the last ten years, and contain at least two blank pages. In exceptional circumstances specified by law, entry may be permitted with a travel document valid for less than three months after the departure date.

Consular Visa Application Requirements

  • For employment purposes, a decision of the competent authority regarding the granting of a temporary work residence right, proof of financial sufficiency, a criminal record certificate, and health insurance are provided.
  • For study purposes, an acceptance letter from the educational institution, proof or scholarship document that study and living expenses can be covered, a criminal record certificate, and health insurance are required.   • In a religious or humanitarian activity application, the registration of the inviting organization in the State Register of Legal Entities, a document proving the relationship with a recognized religious organization or humanitarian organization, a volunteer or cooperation agreement, accommodation, and proof of financial sufficiency are provided.
  • In a long-term medical treatment application, an acceptance letter from the healthcare institution specifying the diagnosis and treatment duration, proof that treatment and living expenses can be covered, and, if necessary, documents showing that a companion can provide care must be provided.
  • In a diplomatic or official duty application, a diplomatic note confirming the purpose of travel issued by the foreign ministry, diplomatic mission, consular post, international organization, or competent public authority of the sending state is required.
  • In an application for work in the information technology field, an employment declaration from the legal entity resident in the Moldovan information technology park, the registration record of the inviting organization, and the relevant temporary residence decision are required. In intra-corporate transfer or internship applications, company letters confirming the transfer, professional development, or technical training, and company registration documents must be provided.
  • In most long-stay visa types, a criminal record certificate obtained from the country of origin is required. The document must be translated into Romanian or English depending on the visa type, and legalized or apostilled to the extent applicable. Minors under sixteen years of age are exempt from providing a criminal record certificate in certain categories.
  • Short-stay type C and long-stay type D visas grant a stay of up to 90 days in any 180-day period. A type D visa gives the possibility to apply for an appropriate residence permit in Moldova. Transit Visa Requirements

  • Moldova applies two types of transit visas. Type A airport transit visa allows a traveler to wait for their connecting flight in the international airport transit area without officially entering Moldova. Type B transit visa is issued for passage through the territory of Moldova to reach a third country.
  • In a type A application, a completed and signed visa form, a passport issued within the last ten years and valid for at least three months after the planned departure date from Moldova, one recent matte color photograph measuring 35 × 45 millimeters, an air ticket to the country of destination, and, if necessary, a visa or residence permit showing the right to enter the third country must be provided.
  • The central consular fee for a type A airport transit visa is 20 euros. Additional service or processing fees may be applied by the relevant mission. The airport transit visa only permits staying in the international transit area until the connecting flight.
  • In a type B transit application, a completed and signed form, a passport issued within the last ten years and valid for at least three months after the planned departure date, and one recent matte color photograph measuring 35 × 45 millimeters are provided.
  • The applicant must have a valid visa or residence permit showing the right to enter the country of destination and, if necessary, the transit country neighboring Moldova. In cases where such a visa is not required, other documents showing the right to enter the subsequent country may be accepted.
  • A valid onward travel ticket must be provided. If transiting by private vehicle, a driver's license, international motor vehicle insurance, and vehicle registration documents are required.

  • Transit and airport transit applications are exempt from the official immigration invitation procedure, provided that entry to the subsequent country and departure from Moldova are secured with sufficient documents.
