Visa-Free Entry Requirements

  • The passenger must carry a valid passport, travel document replacing a passport, or recognized identity document accepted under Georgian legislation or applicable international agreements. A single minimum passport validity period and number of blank pages applicable to all visa-free passengers is not definitively specified in the central official source.
  • The visa-free period of stay varies depending on the exemption arrangement used. Under general short-term exemptions, the period of stay is a maximum of 90 days within any 180-day period. Some exemption arrangements may allow a stay of up to one full year. For exemptions based on a valid visa or residence permit of another country, the document in question must be valid on the dates of entry into and exit from Georgia and must meet any additional conditions specified in the relevant arrangement.
  • As of 1 January 2026, passengers entering for tourist purposes must carry valid health and accident insurance. The policy must be issued in Georgian or English and must be presentable in printed or electronic form. It may be issued by an insurance company in Georgia or another country.
  • The insurance coverage must be at least 30,000 Georgian Lari. The policy must cover the entire stay, including the dates of entry into and exit from the country. The policy must include the parties to the contract, the geographical area covered, the subject of the insurance, the start and end dates, the insured risks, the coverage limits, the premium amount, and the place and term of payment.
  • Insurance exemptions may apply to holders of diplomatic or special visas, holders of diplomatic, official, service, or special passports, accredited diplomatic and international organization personnel and their accredited family members, persons entering under international agreements, and drivers in international road freight or passenger transport.
  • At border control, the passenger may be asked to provide documents showing the purpose of travel, accommodation arrangements, sufficient financial means to stay in the country, and ability to cover exit or return costs. A common bank account period or minimum financial amount applicable to all visa-free passengers is not definitively specified in the central official source.
  • Visa exemption does not constitute an automatic right of admission to the country. Entry may be refused in case of false or incomplete information, lack of required entry documents, inability to prove sufficient financial means, or inability to verify the purpose of travel.

E-Visa Application Requirements

  • The e-visa may only be used by persons who are outside Georgia and who will undertake short-term travel. The e-visa is issued for short-term Category C travel, and the applicant's eligibility is determined in the application portal based on their nationality, the travel document they use, their residence status, and the purpose of travel.
  • The application form must be completed in English. The personal information from the passport must be used in the application; persons with dual nationality must select the nationality of the passport they will use when traveling to Georgia. After the application is submitted, incorrect information cannot be corrected; a new application must be created.
  • The applicant must complete email verification within one hour of the message being sent. After verification, payment must be made within five hours. If these time limits are exceeded, the application is cancelled.
  • The passport or travel document must be valid for at least three months after the expiry date of the requested Georgian visa. The document must have been issued within the last ten years, contain at least two blank pages, not be damaged, and not bear unofficial entries.
  • A scan of the biographical page of the passport containing personal information must be submitted. This page must include the surname and given name, photograph, date and place of birth, passport number, issuing authority, date of issue and date of expiry.
  • During the application, a biometric photograph, passport scan, proof of accommodation, round-trip transport reservation, travel and health insurance, financial means document, and documents proving the purpose of travel may be required. In some application groups, a scan of a supporting country visa or residence permit is also requested. An applicant who does not have such a supporting document may proceed by leaving the relevant fields blank if the system permits.
  • The definitive document list is generated by the system after selecting the nationality, permanent place of residence, and purpose of travel. The personalized list generated by the system should not be considered a universal checklist for all applicants.
  • As proof of accommodation, a hotel reservation covering the entire stay, a rental agreement, or a document showing ownership of real estate in Georgia may be used.
  • The purpose of travel may be proven by an invitation letter, a letter from the inviting organization or institution, or another document indicating the purpose of the visit.
  • Financial means may be proven by a bank account statement for the last three months, an employer's letter showing the applicant's position and income, a real estate ownership document, or a sponsorship letter. The minimum amount required to be in the bank account is not definitively specified in the central official source.
  • The sponsorship letter must be dated and signed. The letter must include the sponsor's name and surname, address, contact information, relationship to the applicant, place to be visited, duration of travel, and the expenses the sponsor will cover. Whether the sponsor's bank statement or income document is mandatory for each application is determined according to the personalized document list.
  • The photograph must have been taken within the last six months and reflect the applicant's current appearance. The applicant must look directly at the camera; the height of the head must be between 50 percent and 70 percent of the total photograph height. A headscarf worn for religious reasons must not cover the face or hairline and must not create shadows on the face.
  • In a child's photograph, only the child must appear; the parent, the parent's hand, or any other object supporting the child must not be visible. Photographs copied from an identity card or another official document, scanned document photographs, low-resolution images, instant snapshots, and full-length photographs are not accepted.
  • The pixel dimensions, file size, file format, and required background color of the photograph are not definitively specified in the central e-visa source.
  • A separate passport or travel document, separate e-visa application, and separate set of documents must be prepared for each child and adult. The fact that the child is registered in the parent's passport does not remove the requirement for a separate application.
  • The e-visa fee is 20 US dollars, and a 2 percent service charge is added. Payment is made by Visa or MasterCard credit or debit card. The card does not have to belong to the applicant. The fee is not refunded in case of application refusal, non-use of the visa, or incorrect information provided by the applicant.
  • The announced official processing time for an e-visa application is five business days. The minimum number of days before travel that the application must be submitted has not been separately specified.
  • The validity period of the e-visa, the maximum stay it permits, and the multiple entry condition vary according to the passport or travel document used. Visa on Arrival Requirements

  • There is no general visa on arrival system available to all tourists in Georgia. A visa at the border crossing point may only be issued in limited and exceptional cases specified in the legislation.
  • The border authority may issue: a short-term, single-entry B4 visa in exceptional cases related to international law, humanitarian grounds, or state interests; a C3 visa to crew members of a vessel in a Georgian port; a C4 visa to persons arriving for the purpose of receiving or providing humanitarian assistance in situations posing a risk to life or health; and a transit visa to transit passengers.
  • The exceptional B4 visa may be issued with a validity of 30 calendar days and as single entry. It should be noted that this is not a visa on arrival facility that can be used for normal tourist travel.
  • The application form and documents supporting the relevant visa are submitted directly to the authorized unit of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia at the border crossing point open to international travel. A valid travel document, documents proving the purpose of travel, and, if applicable, a document showing payment of the state fee may be required.
  • Crew members of a vessel must submit documents proving their crew status and that the vessel is in a Georgian port. For a C4 visa for humanitarian purposes, documents showing the risk to life or health and the need for assistance may be required.
  • For a transit visa issued at the border, a document proving travel to a third country and the right to enter that country must be submitted.
  • The photograph size, application fee, payment method, and standard processing time for visas issued at the border are not definitively specified in the central official source. The authorized border authority may request additional information and documents.

Consular Visa Application Requirements

  • Georgian visas are divided into categories: diplomatic A, special B, ordinary C, immigration D, and transit T. Category C is used for short-term purposes such as tourism, visiting family or friends, business and professional events, humanitarian or medical travel; Category D is used for long-term purposes such as employment, entrepreneurship, education, research, family reunification, and real estate ownership.
  • A consular application must first be created electronically through the Geoconsul system. The applicant must select their nationality or status information, their country of location, and the competent diplomatic mission; complete the service application and visa form; upload documents to the system; and select an appropriate interview date.
  • After completing the electronic form, the application form must be printed, signed, and, according to the mission's instructions, re-uploaded to the system. On the appointment date, the applicant must submit the signed form and the originals of supporting documents or the requested printed copies.
  • If there is no Georgian mission in the country where the application is made, an application may be made to a nearby authorized mission. A person applying outside their country of nationality must hold a valid multiple-entry visa or residence permit for the country where they are located. The validity of this document must be at least three months longer than the validity of the requested Georgian visa.
  • The passport or travel document must be valid for at least three months after the expiry of the requested visa, must have been issued within the last ten years, must not be damaged, must not contain unofficial entries, and must have at least two blank pages for the visa sticker.
  • The application is accompanied by the visa form, travel document, receipt showing payment of the visa fee, documents proving the purpose of travel, document of sufficient financial means, travel or health insurance, and proof of accommodation. If the application is made through a representative, a document showing the power of representation must be submitted.
  • For short-term tourist applications, a hotel reservation or notarized letter of accommodation, round-trip transport reservation, insurance, and financial means document may be required. For business, conference, educational, cultural, or similar travel, an invitation letter from the inviting institution explaining the purpose and duration of the travel may be requested.

  • For a D3 study visa, a letter of acceptance from the authorized educational institution, a decision showing the right to study or program enrollment, if necessary a document showing payment of the compulsory portion of the tuition fee, proof of accommodation, and financial means are required.
  • For a D4 family reunification visa, the visa or residence permit of the family member legally present in Georgia and a marriage certificate, birth certificate, or equivalent document showing the family relationship must be submitted.
  • For a D5 visa, a record showing ownership of a real estate property other than agricultural land in Georgia and an appraisal report determining the market value of the property must be submitted. Under the current legislation, the market value of the property must exceed the Georgian Lari equivalent of 150,000 US dollars. The appraisal must be carried out by a certified appraiser of an organization accredited by the Georgian Accreditation Center.
  • A separate application must be created for applicants under the age of eighteen. The mission may request a notarized consent form from the parent or legal guardian, copies of the parents' passports, and a birth certificate. The format of the consent form and the notarization requirement may vary depending on the mission applied to.
  • The requirement for documents to be submitted in English or Georgian, translated, notarized, apostilled, or legalized varies depending on the document type and the mission. A single translation and certification rule applicable to all consular applications is not definitively specified in the central official source.
  • The consular visa fee is 20 US dollars. The local currency equivalent, bank account, transfer method, bank charges, and information to be included on the receipt are determined according to the mission applied to.
  • Short-term visa applications are normally processed within 10 calendar days. If additional examination is required, the period may be extended up to 30 calendar days. For Category D long-term visas, the decision period is 30 calendar days. For D5 visa, the decision period is 10 calendar days.   • The visa authority may summon the applicant or their legal representative for an interview and may request additional documents. The submission of documents does not mean that the visa or entry to the country will be automatically granted.

Transit Visa Requirements

  • A transit visa is issued for the purpose of traveling to a third country by passing through the territory of Georgia. The permitted transit period is a maximum of 10 days.
  • The applicant must submit a valid travel document, a completed and signed visa form, a fee receipt, documents showing the transit route through Georgia, and a visa, residence permit, or other entry document proving the right to enter the third country.
  • An onward travel ticket or transport reservation may be required. For certain transit applications made at the border by main drivers and assistant drivers during international freight transport, an exception regarding the document showing the guarantee of entry into the third country may apply.
  • In a transit visa application made through a consulate, the travel document must be valid for at least three months after the expiry of the visa period, must have been issued within the last ten years, must be undamaged and free of unofficial entries, and must contain at least two blank pages for the visa sticker.
  • The transit visa is subject to short-term visa procedures. The normal decision period is 10 calendar days; the period may be extended when additional examination is required. A separate fee specific to the transit visa and a payment method valid at all missions are not definitively specified in the central official source.
  • Air passengers who do not leave the international transit area do not need to obtain a visa according to the explanation on the e-visa portal. Crew of international air, rail, or sea vessels and transfer passengers may be exempted from a transit visa, provided they have a document showing the right to enter the destination country, their stay in Georgia does not exceed 10 days, and they do not leave the designated transit area.
