Haiti: Visa and entry documents and requirements

Visa-Free Entry Requirements
- The traveler must carry a passport valid for at least six months. Since how the six-month period is calculated may vary according to the practice of some diplomatic missions, it is recommended that the passport be valid for at least six months on both the date of entry and the planned date of return.
- Visa-exempt short-term visitors may stay in Haiti for a maximum of 90 days. Foreigners who wish to stay longer must apply to the Haiti Directorate of Immigration and Emigration before the first 90-day period expires and initiate procedures for a long-term stay or residence permit.
- Foreign visitors entering by air are charged a tourism or entry fee of 10 US dollars upon arrival.
- All travelers entering and leaving Haiti must complete the iKat electronic entry and exit form separately for each trip. This obligation applies to adults and children; a separate form must be completed for each family member.
- In the iKat form, personal information, identity and passport details, travel details, flight or land transport information, health declarations and customs information must be provided completely, accurately and up-to-date. The form can be filled out online before arrival or departure. The official system mandates that the form be completed 48 hours in advance, and also states that information can be entered as early as 72 hours before travel.
- If the form has not been completed in advance, the traveler must complete the process before passing through border, health or customs control. The QR code generated after the form is submitted must be kept and presented at entry and exit checks. The QR code can be shown digitally on a phone or in printed form.
- If there is an error in the form, corrections can be made via the electronic system using the form code and passport number. iKat is not a visa or electronic travel authorization and does not change the visa requirement applicable to the traveler.
- Authorized border authorities may additionally assess the traveler's identity, purpose of travel, and entry conditions.
Consular Visa Application Requirements
- The applicant must apply to the competent Haitian embassy or consulate before travel. The Haitian Embassy in Washington requests that the visa application be made at least one month before the planned date of departure. This period is not a published universal processing time for all Haitian missions.
- A completed and signed visa application form must be submitted for the application. The information provided in the form must be consistent with the passport and supporting documents.
- The applicant must submit a foreign passport valid for at least six months. The Haitian Embassy in Canada requests that the passport be valid for at least six months during both the outward and return periods.
- The Haitian Embassy in Washington requests two recent, color passport photographs. The mission in Canada requests that one identity photograph of 35 × 45 millimeters be attached to the application form. The number and size of photographs vary according to the mission applied to.
- The applicant must submit a petition explaining the purpose of travel and the duration of stay in Haiti. The petition or supporting documents must state the name, address and telephone number of the hotel or private residence where the applicant will stay in Haiti.
- A copy of the flight reservation confirmation or round-trip airline ticket must be submitted. If travel to a subsequent country is planned, whether the relevant itinerary will be accepted should be confirmed with the mission being applied to.
- The applicant must submit an employment letter from their current employer.
- For applications made in Canada, the applicant must submit an identity or residence document showing their legal status in Canada. Proof of legal residence may also be requested by Haitian missions in other countries; the type of document varies according to the country where the application is made.
- For travel requested by an institution or organization, a letter from the institution explaining the visa or the applicant's need to be in Haiti may be required. A separate procedure applies for diplomatic and official visa applications.
- At the Haitian Embassy in Washington, a tourist visa can be issued as a three-month single-entry or six-month multiple-entry visa. The fee for the three-month tourist visa is 100 US dollars, and the fee for the six-month multiple-entry tourist visa is 200 US dollars.
- At the mission in Washington, fees must be paid by certified check or bank check issued by a bank or credit union. The payment must be made payable to 'Embassy of Haiti'. Cash and personal checks are not accepted.
- On the visa page of the Haitian Embassy in Canada, 40 Canadian dollars are shown for a single-entry visa and 50 Canadian dollars for a multiple-entry visa. Since different amounts appear on the same mission's separate fee page for visitor visas, the current fee should be confirmed directly with the mission before applying.
- At the mission in Canada, payment can be made in Canadian dollars, by certified check, money order, or cash. The accepted payment method and fee vary according to the embassy or consulate being applied to.
- The issuance of the visa may be delayed due to additional review, document verification, or the workload of the mission. The competent authority may request additional documents or an interview.
- Visa approval does not constitute a guarantee of definitive entry at the border. The traveler must additionally complete the iKat entry and exit form and be able to show the generated QR code at entry control.
