Chad: Visa and entry documents and requirements

Visa requirements may change. Always verify the latest information through official government sources.

Visa-Free Entry Requirements

  • A passenger benefiting from visa-free entry must present a valid passport or an accepted valid travel document at border control.
  • A valid vaccination certificate showing yellow fever vaccination must be carried upon arrival in Chad. The document may be inspected by immigration officers during entry control.

E-Visa Application Requirements

  • Regular visa applications must be made online through the official e-visa platform. The application process consists of entering an email address, verifying the email address, providing the travel document number and expiry date, filling out the application form, uploading supporting documents, making payment, and tracking the application.
  • The applicant must upload the biographical information page of their valid passport in color. The passport image must be prepared in JPEG or PDF format and all information on it must be clearly legible. For some visa types, all pages of the passport may be requested. This requirement is indicated in the document list generated by the system according to the selected visa type.
  • The current minimum validity period and number of blank pages required for the passport have not been definitively specified in the public section of the e-visa portal.
  • Depending on the application type, a recent, color photograph meeting visa photo requirements may be uploaded. The photo is accepted in JPEG or PDF format.
  • Photo and passport files must be prepared in JPEG or PDF format; invitation letters, tickets, and other official documents must be prepared in PDF format. Texts, signatures, seals, legalization records, and identification numbers on uploaded documents must be fully and clearly legible.
  • The requested documents vary depending on the visa type, purpose of travel, nature of the inviting person or organization, and the applicant's situation. The system may generate a personalized document list according to the selected application category. Possible supporting documents published by the portal include an onward, return, or onward travel ticket, other proof of transportation, hotel reservation, accommodation document, legalized invitation letter, proof of financial means or income, and bank statement.
  • For applications made for employment or professional activity purposes, an employment contract, proof of profession, assignment order, and the company's administrative documents may be requested. For business applications, the inviting organization's administrative and tax documents may be requested.
  • For applications related to a non-governmental organization, the agreement between the organization and the State of Chad and the administrative documents of the receiving organization may be requested. Persons with foreign status in the country of application may be asked for a residence card or legal residence document from that country.
  • The invitation letter must be prepared by a person or organization and, if necessary, legalized. The content of the invitation, identity documents of the inviting person, financial documents of the sponsor, and details regarding the party covering expenses vary depending on the visa type.
  • Financial means may be demonstrated by a bank statement, income proof, or another financial document.
  • The personalized document list generated in the system according to the child's situation should be followed.
  • A single rule applicable to all visa types regarding translation, notarization, legalization, or apostille of application documents has not been published. In categories where a legalized invitation letter is required, the document must carry the necessary approvals.
  • The applicant must carry the yellow fever vaccination certificate with them during travel. The document is checked by immigration officers upon arrival in Chad.
  • According to the current circular, the application can be made up to 60 days before the planned entry date. It is recommended that the application be completed at least seven days before the entry date.
  • The official processing time for standard e-visa applications is 10 business days. The stated time for express applications is 72 hours. The processing time may be extended if additional verification is carried out or there is a high volume of applications.
  • After the e-visa is issued, the information in the application cannot be changed. Therefore, the form must be carefully checked before submission and payment.
  • Paid application fees are non-refundable. Current fee amounts are determined according to the visa category and are displayed within the application system.
  • The current circular mentions 15-day and 30-day visas and states that these visas can be extended only once. The validity periods, permitted durations of stay, and single or multiple entry conditions of other categories are determined according to the visa type selected during application.
  • If the visa expires while staying in Chad, an application for extension must be made to the Directorate of Migration and Immigration.
  • Additional documents or information may be requested for files requiring further verification.

Consular Visa Application Requirements

  • Diplomatic and courtesy visas are excluded from the e-visa platform. These applications are under the direct responsibility of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Chad or an authorized Chadian diplomatic mission.
  • The exact procedure and document list to be used for the application are determined by the responsible diplomatic mission.
  • The authorized mission may request a valid diplomatic or service passport, a completed visa application form, identity photographs, and a note verbale issued by the foreign ministry of the sending state.
  • This information should be obtained currently from the mission where the application will be made.

Transit Visa Requirements

  • Chad's visa regime includes non-stop transit and transit categories allowing a stopover in Chad. A stopover transit visa may cover a maximum of 15 days of transit stay.
  • Transit visa applications must also be made through the official e-visa platform, along with regular visa categories. The applicant must upload the biographical information page of their valid passport, the travel itinerary, and an airline ticket or other proof of transportation showing the journey after Chad.
  • If a visa or another permit is required for entry to the final destination country, the submission of this document may be requested. The exact document list is generated by the e-visa system according to the transit type and the nature of the journey.
  • Application documents must be legible; passport and photo must be uploaded in JPEG or PDF, and tickets and other official documents in PDF format.
  • The yellow fever vaccination certificate must be carried during travel and presented to immigration officers upon arrival in Chad.
  • For transit by vehicle, a valid international insurance certificate for the vehicle and persons, travel plan, customs transit document, and documents regarding the entry point to be used in Chad may be requested. The personalized checklist generated in the current e-visa system should be followed.
  • A general processing time of 10 business days for standard transit e-visa applications and a processing time of 72 hours for express applications may apply. The time may be extended for applications requiring additional review.
