Visa-Free Entry Requirements
- The traveler must carry a valid passport with a validity of at least six months before travel, or a valid travel document accepted under the special regulations applicable to them.
- At border control, a passport, appropriate identity card or emergency travel document may be examined.
- All travelers must complete the Health Declaration Form on the health travel portal no later than 72 hours before the planned travel date. When creating a portal account, first name, surname, email address and phone number are provided. The accuracy of the information must be checked before submitting the form.
- A yellow fever vaccination card in the form of an International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis must be carried.
- The right to visa-free entry does not constitute a guarantee of admission to the country. The final decision on entry is made by the immigration officer at the authorized border checkpoint.
E-Visa Application Requirements
- The e-visa application must be made online solely through the official e-visa portal directed by the Sierra Leone Immigration Department. Application and application status processes are conducted through the portal.
- The personal information and travel document information provided in the application must exactly match the valid passport. The passport must have a validity of at least six months before travel.
- The public landing page of the official e-visa portal does not publish a detailed document checklist applicable to all applicants.
- The electronic approval must be kept accessible during travel.
- All travelers must complete the Health Declaration Form no later than 72 hours before travel and carry a yellow fever vaccination card.
- The e-visa does not grant a definitive right of admission to the country. The final decision on admission belongs to the immigration officer at the border, and the officer may request additional documents or explanations.
Visa on Arrival Requirements
- A visa on arrival can be obtained from the immigration officer at the authorized entry point for suitable short-term tourism, visit, or business travel. For travel other than these purposes, the appropriate visa or permit must be obtained before commencing the journey.
- The traveler must carry a valid passport with a validity of at least six months before travel.
- The visa on arrival fee is 25 USD or 80 USD depending on the official nationality or regional category applicable to the traveler.
- Separate from the direct visa on arrival process, a reliable person residing in Sierra Leone or an organization operating in the country may request a 'landing visa' in advance by making a written application addressed to the Chief Immigration Officer on behalf of the visitor. In this application, the host or organization must assume responsibility on behalf of the visitor.

Consular Visa Application Requirements
- The consular visa application must be made to the authorized Sierra Leone embassy, high commission, consulate, or permanent mission for the country or region where the applicant is located. Acceptance of applications in person or by mail varies by mission.
- A valid passport with a validity of at least six months and blank pages for visa printing must be submitted.
- The application form must be completed in full and signed by the applicant. The form may require identity, contact, occupation, purpose of travel, planned date of arrival, duration of stay, address in the country, and contact person in the country information.
- The number of photographs varies by the mission applied to. Some missions require one, others two passport photographs. The size published in London, Beijing, and Kuwait is 35 × 45 millimeters.
- An international yellow fever vaccination certificate must be submitted.
- For tourist or visit purpose applications, a travel itinerary, invitation letter, or hotel reservation may be requested. Which of these documents are mandatory varies by the mission applied to and the purpose of travel.
- For a business visa, an invitation letter from the registered company or organization in the country and an introduction or support letter from the applicant's employer may be requested. The letter must explain the nature of the work to be done, the name and address of the person or organization to be visited, the purpose of the travel, that return transportation is covered, and that sufficient financial resources for the visit exist. The employer's letter must be signed by an authorized company official other than the applicant.
- From companies or applicants with no previous business connections in the country, proof of commercial reliability and financial capability, as well as hotel reservation, may be requested.
- For business purpose applications, a round-trip flight ticket or reservation and an invitation letter from the registered company or organization in the country may be required.
- For applicants under eighteen years of age, a consent letter from both parents or the parent with full custody is required. Some missions additionally mandate the child's birth certificate, copies of government-issued identity documents of both parents, and a notarized consent form.
- If the application is made by mail, a pre-paid, trackable return envelope bearing the applicant's address may be required for the return of the passport. This requirement varies by the mission applied to.
- The application fee varies depending on the visa type, number of entries, applicant's status, and the mission applied to. Fees are non-refundable.
- The fees published at the London High Commission are 109 GBP for single entry, 134 GBP for six-month multiple entry, and 159 GBP for one-year multiple entry. Payment is made by bank transfer, and the payment receipt is attached to the application. Cash payment is not accepted at the High Commission office.
- At the Washington Embassy, the fee for tourist, visitor, and business visas is 100 USD for single entry and 150 USD for multiple entry. Payment is made only by money order or cashier's check made out to the embassy. Cash and personal checks are not accepted. An additional fee of 50 USD applies for expedited processing.
- Standard processing time varies by the mission applied to. In London, applications are generally processed in three business days; according to published information in Beijing and Kuwait, generally in 24 hours.
- A single-entry tourist or business visa at some missions is issued valid for three months from the date of issuance and for a maximum stay of 30 days. Multiple-entry visas may be valid for six months or one year and allow a maximum stay of 30 days per entry. Since published validity periods vary among missions, the dates on the visa should be taken as authoritative.
- During the examination of the visa application, additional documents or an interview may be requested. Issuance of a visa does not grant a definitive right of entry to the country; the final decision lies with the immigration officer at the point of entry.
Transit Visa Requirements
- The transit visa application must be made to the authorized Sierra Leone diplomatic mission. The applicant must submit a valid onward flight or transportation ticket showing continuation to the final destination.
- A valid passport with a validity of at least six months and blank pages, a completed visa application form, a passport photograph, and a yellow fever vaccination certificate may be required. The number and size of photographs may vary by the mission applied to.
- The transit visa fee published by the Washington Embassy is 30 USD. At this mission, the transit visa is issued for a maximum stay of 72 hours and a multiple entry option is not offered.
- Payments in Washington are made by money order or cashier's check. Cash and personal checks are not accepted.
- Transfer conditions must be verified with the authorized mission depending on the route to be used and whether border control will be crossed.
