Jordan: Visa and entry documents and requirements

Visa requirements may change. Always verify the latest information through official government sources.

E-Visa Application Requirements

  • The e-visa application is made through the electronic service portal of the Ministry of Interior of Jordan or through the Ministry's official mobile application. Individual applicants must create an electronic account, select the appropriate registration type, and activate their accounts online. For the initial activation of institution and company accounts, a one-time application to the Ministry of Interior may be required.
  • After logging into their account, the applicant must create a new application, select the appropriate visa category and type, fill in the information of the applicant and the invited persons, upload the documents required by the system, and submit the application electronically. The list of required documents varies according to nationality, residence status, purpose of travel, visa type, whether pre-approval is required, and sponsor status. The personalized document list generated in the live application system must be taken as a basis.
  • Eligibility for direct e-visa may depend, for some applicants, on having a residence permit valid for at least six months in a foreign country or a Schengen or United States visa valid for at least six months. A return ticket may be requested from applicants departing by air. These conditions are not universal for all applicants and are determined by the system according to the applicant's situation.
  • For a visit visa requiring pre-approval, the visitor must be outside Jordan at the time of application. A copy of the visitor's passport or travel document valid for at least six months must be uploaded. If the applicant resides in a country whose nationality they do not hold, a copy of the residence permit valid for at least six months must be submitted.
  • If the application is made by a non-Jordanian inviter or sponsor, a copy of the sponsor's passport is required. If the inviter or applicant resides in Jordan as a foreigner, a copy of the valid Jordanian residence permit must be submitted. If the application is made by a company or institution, a copy of the valid professional or activity license must be uploaded.
  • The e-visa system includes applications for different purposes such as visit, tourism, transit, work, education, and medical treatment. Different permits and supporting documents may apply for each travel purpose. A document list published for one purpose cannot be applied to other visa types.
  • A direct e-visa is issued electronically after entering the required information and paying the fee. The processing time for the direct e-visa service is stated as instantaneous. The standard processing time for electronic applications subject to pre-approval is generally 1–14 business days. A service fee of 2 Jordanian dinars per person is applied to standard applications. For the urgent application option, the processing time is stated as five business days, and it has been explained that the service fee starts at 100 Jordanian dinars per application.
  • The direct e-visa options and fees are as follows: three-month single-entry visa 40 Jordanian dinars, three-month double-entry visa 60 Jordanian dinars, six-month multiple-entry visa 120 Jordanian dinars, one-year multiple-entry visa 200 Jordanian dinars, and five-year multiple-entry visa 350 Jordanian dinars. Different fees may apply to specific applicant groups; the current payment amount generated in the application portal must be taken as a basis.
  • No additional service fee is charged for direct e-visa fees. Payment can be made via eFAWATEERcom, local banks in Jordan, or Mastercard, Visa and American Express credit or debit cards. The payment channels available for pre-approved applications are shown on the application screen.
  • The period selected for the visa is considered the validity period during which the visa can be used for entry into the country. The duration of stay in Jordan is a separate period starting with entry into the country.
  • The application can be tracked electronically. The competent authority may request additional information or documents if deemed necessary. If an interview is requested, the location and details of the interview are shown in the electronic account. The applicant may be directed to the relevant Jordanian diplomatic mission with the electronic application number when necessary.
  • The approval notification and e-visa can be printed from the electronic account.
  • Persons under 16 years of age who do not have their own passport may be added to the main applicant's visa as a companion in the electronic application.
  • The file and image conditions shown on the live application screen must be taken as a basis.

Visa on Arrival Requirements

  • Passengers eligible for a visa on arrival must present their valid passport to the border officer at the authorized entry point.
  • The single-entry visa on arrival fee is 40 Jordanian dinars. The visa is valid for one month and an extension can be made from the nearest police station in Jordan. The six-month multiple-entry visa fee is 120 Jordanian dinars and this visa cannot be extended.
  • The visa fee must be paid in local currency.
  • A visa on arrival can be obtained at Queen Alia International Airport and at land border crossings that provide this service. Visas are not issued at the King Hussein Bridge or Allenby border crossing and the visa must be obtained in advance. At the Wadi Araba border crossing, a visa is generally required in advance as well. The current practice of the border crossing to be used should be checked before travel.
  • Some applicants' ability to benefit from a visa on arrival may depend on their having a residence permit valid for at least six months in a foreign country or a Schengen or United States visa valid for at least six months. A return ticket may be requested from those arriving by air. These conditions vary according to nationality and residence status and are not universal for all passengers.
  • The issuance of a visa on arrival does not create an unconditional right of entry into the country. Final admission is subject to the border authority's document and eligibility check.

Transit Visa Requirements

  • The transit visa application is made electronically. The applicant must pay the required fee and receive the issued electronic approval notification through the system.
  • The duration of stay in Jordan with a transit visa is a maximum of 72 hours from the moment of entry into the country. The transit permit cannot be extended.
  • A copy of the visitor's passport or travel document valid for at least six months must be submitted. Additionally, a copy of a valid visa, residence permit or equivalent document that ensures the visitor's admission to the next country of travel must be uploaded.
  • If the applicant resides in a country whose nationality they do not hold, they must submit a copy of the residence permit valid for at least six months in the country of residence.
  • If the application is made by a foreign person or inviter, a document showing the legal residence of that person is required. If the application is made by a company or institution, a copy of the valid professional or activity license must be submitted.
  • The current fee and processing information generated by the electronic application system must be taken as a basis.
  • The competent authority may request additional documents, explanations or an interview during the evaluation of the application.
