Barbados: Visa and entry documents and requirements
Visa requirements may change. Always verify the latest information through official government sources.
Visa-Free Entry Requirements
- The traveler's passport must be valid for the entire duration of the stay in Barbados. No additional minimum validity period beyond the end of travel has been specified for the passport.
- The traveler must have a return ticket to their country of residence, an accommodation or stay address in Barbados, and proof of financial support demonstrating that they can meet their personal needs during the trip.
- The online Immigration and Customs Form must be completed before arriving in Barbados. The form becomes available 72 hours before the planned arrival. Flight details, passport information of the travelers, and a valid email address are required to complete the form. The immigration and customs receipts generated at the end of the process must be stored on a mobile device or printed and presented to the authorities upon arrival. This form is not an electronic travel authorization or visa.
- A child under eighteen years of age traveling unaccompanied must carry a notarized written consent letter prepared by their parent or legal guardian. The document issued by the legal guardian must also include official proof of guardianship. The consent letter must include the child's duration of stay, the identity and contact information of the authorized adult who will receive the child upon arrival. The original and one copy of the document must be carried.
- A child traveling with an adult other than their parent or legal guardian must carry a consent letter signed by the parent and bearing a notary seal. The document must include the duration of stay, the identity, address, and telephone number of the adult accompanying the child. If the person who will receive the child upon arrival is different, the identity and contact information of that person must also be written. The original and one copy of the document must be carried.
- The permitted duration may vary depending on the passport, travel document, and the visa regime applicable to the traveler.
E-Visa Application Requirements
- Barbados refers to this permit as "Entry Visa" on its official pages. The Entry Visa application and payment process is conducted through the official online portal of the Barbados Immigration Department. The applicant must complete the application and obtain the travel authorization before finalizing their travel reservation.
- A separate Form J must be completed and signed in full for each applicant. The form asks for first and last name, date and place of birth, nationality, marital status, occupation, passport number, passport issuance and expiration dates, issuing country, permanent address, planned address in Barbados, telephone, email, purpose of travel, planned arrival date, previous visits, means of subsistence, criminal record information, and preference for single or multiple entry visa.
- One passport-sized photograph must be submitted. The photo area on Form J is shown as 3 × 4 centimeters.
- Copies of the outer cover of the passport and the biographical or biometric information page must be submitted. The original passport does not have to be sent unless physical processing of the visa into the passport is specifically requested. The visa is normally issued as an approval letter, and this document is accepted at airline check-in and at the Barbados entry point. No uniform requirement regarding carrying the approval letter in printed or digital form has been stated; the document must be kept accessible during travel.
- A birth certificate and, where applicable, a marriage certificate must be submitted. Documents not in English must be provided with certified English translations.
- A letter of explanation addressed to the Chief Immigration Officer must be prepared. The letter must include the applicant's return address, telephone number, fax number, email address, purpose of travel, planned date of entry, and duration of stay.
- Employees must submit an employment or employer letter; students must submit a school, college, or university letter. If a person resides in a country different from their country of birth, they must prove their legal status in the country of application with a copy of a work permit, student visa, or residence permit.
- Travelers traveling for the purpose of attending an appointment at a diplomatic mission of the United States or United Kingdom in Barbados are required to provide a copy of the appointment letter. This document is not a general requirement for other travel purposes.
- The single-entry visa fee is 107 USD and entitles the holder to one entry within a three-month period. The multiple-entry visa fee is 211 USD and entitles the holder to multiple entries within a six-month period. These periods refer to the period during which the visa can be used for entry, not the maximum duration of continuous stay in Barbados.
- The fee must be paid at the time of application, and an application made without payment will not be accepted. The current Immigration Department homepage states that the application and payment are entirely online. The detailed requirements page also includes procedures for payment by bank draft or money order made payable to the Chief Immigration Officer and for sending documents by courier.
- The official processing time is three weeks. No fixed period different from this has been stated for how many days or months before travel the application should be made. Incomplete or incorrect documents may cause processing delays, and the Immigration Department may contact the applicant to resolve the deficiency.
- The Entry Visa does not guarantee the right of entry into Barbados. The decision to admit the traveler into the country is made by the immigration officer at the point of entry. The visa holder must also be able to present a valid passport for the duration of travel, a return ticket to the country of residence, a stay address in Barbados, proof of personal financial support, and the completed online Immigration and Customs Form.
