Visa-Free Entry Requirements
- Visa-free entry can only be used within the passport type, travel purpose, and duration of stay covered by the relevant reciprocal exemption agreement. The traveler must travel with a valid passport and enter the country through an entry point open to international passenger traffic.
- A passport validity of less than six months may pose a risk of non-admission to the country. Unless a different period is specified in the exemption agreement, it should be ensured that the passport is valid for at least six months on the date of travel.
- The maximum permitted duration of stay, single or multiple entry entitlement, and total stay limit within the 180-day period vary according to the relevant exemption agreement. A traveler who wishes to stay longer than the period permitted under exemption or to engage in work, study, residence, press activity, or any other activity requiring prior authorization must obtain the appropriate visa in advance.
- Visa exemption does not grant an unconditional right of entry. Entry may be refused in the event of a serious criminal record, security concern, forged document, false information, or violation of immigration rules.
E-Visa Application Requirements
- In the normal electronic application procedure, the applicant is expected to create an account with a valid email address, select the appropriate visa type, fill out the online form, upload the required documents, and pay the relevant fees. Application and decision notifications are sent to the email address provided during registration.
- However, the current online payment notice states that payment services are not yet operational and that all visa applications must temporarily be submitted in person using manual forms to the Solomon Islands Immigration Services Office. The applicant must obtain the form from the office or use the form in the official sources section and complete the payment using the method notified by the office.
- A legible copy of the identity page of a valid passport must be attached to the application. A passport validity of less than six months may result in the rejection of the application or refusal of entry.
- For visitor and short-term business visa applications, a return flight ticket or a ticket showing onward travel from the Solomon Islands must be submitted. The applicant must have sufficient financial means to support themselves during the travel and must prove that the purpose of travel is genuine.
- In the manual visitor and business visa forms, the following are requested: full name as in passport, gender, marital status, date and place of birth, nationality, occupation, passport number, place and dates of issue, address in the Solomon Islands, dates of arrival and departure, intended duration of stay, and purpose of travel. A declaration must also be made regarding the previous two visits to the Solomon Islands, past convictions, entry refusals, deportation or removal decisions, and a condition posing a public health risk such as tuberculosis. The form must be filled with correct information, signed and dated by the applicant.
- In the manual forms, there is a single space for attaching one photograph.
- If the applicant is traveling on their own means, they must provide evidence demonstrating financial adequacy. If the travel is financed by a sponsor, the sponsor's name, relationship to the applicant, address, and financing details must be written on the form.
- In tourist applications, travel health insurance, hotel reservation, or a letter of invitation from the host may be requested as additional documents in some cases. These documents are not published as universal requirements for all tourist applications.
- For the family or friend visit subcategory, a letter of support from the host or sponsor must be submitted. The eligibility conditions of this subcategory may vary according to the regional regulation applicable to the applicant.
- For the short-term business visa, a letter of support explaining the reason for travel must be submitted from the applicant's own company or from the company with which they have a business relationship in the Solomon Islands. The visa can be used for meetings, conferences, commercial negotiations, investment review, and unpaid short-term commercial activities. Paid employment or employment in the Solomon Islands cannot be carried out with this visa and requires a separate work permit and an appropriate work visa.
- If there are minor dependents registered in the applicant's passport and traveling with them, their names, dates of birth, and relationship to the applicant must be written on the form.
- The Immigration Unit may request physical document submission or an interview for some applications.
- For the short-term business visa, an administrative fee of USD 50 and an immigration service fee of USD 450 have been published. For the family or friend visit subcategory, an administrative fee of USD 50 is indicated. The tourist visa fee is not consistent across official pages; the central fee regulation shows a total of USD 100, while the tourist visa page and short-term visa policy show a total of USD 150. Therefore, the exact current fee for the tourist visa should be verified with the Immigration Unit before payment is made.
- Fees are collected for the examination of the application and do not guarantee approval of the visa. Fees are generally not refunded in the event of refusal, application for the wrong visa type, incomplete documents, withdrawal of the application, or applicant error. A refund may only be considered in limited situations such as duplicate payment, technical system error, or overpayment.
- The short-term visa policy document mentions a processing time of 14 business days. However, the category pages state that a specific timeframe is not guaranteed. How many days before travel the application should be made is also not precisely published.
- The tourist visa page provides for a single-entry permit of 30 days for the first entry and the possibility to apply for an extension before the visa expires. Since there is conflicting information among official pages regarding the total maximum duration of stay, the exact upper limit should be verified before applying.
- The short-term business visa can be issued for a stay of up to 90 days within a 180-day period and for single or multiple entries. This visa cannot be extended. The validity, multiple entry entitlement, and extension conditions of the family or friend visit visa vary according to the sub-regulation applicable to the applicant.
- When the visa is approved, an electronic visa or visa approval letter is sent to the applicant's email address. The traveler must present a copy of the approval letter upon entry into the country. Since it is not clearly stated whether showing the document only in digital format is sufficient, carrying a printed copy is advisable.
- The Immigration Unit may delay the application, request additional documents, refuse the application, or cancel an issued visa due to incomplete or incorrect documents. False or misleading information and documents must not be submitted.
Transit Visa Requirements
- The published transit visa is for seafarers and associated personnel arriving by international flight to the Solomon Islands to join a commercial sea vessel.
- The applicant must fill out the transit visa form, submit the identity page of their valid passport, provide a letter of indemnity or financial responsibility from the sponsor, and present a one-way ticket for the vessel they will join or the onward flight.
- The name of the flight or vessel, vessel's registration number, flag state, expected date of arrival, port of entry, and contact details of the shipping agent or transport company must be provided.
- For the transit visa, an administrative fee of USD 50 and an immigration service fee of USD 50 have been published. As long as online payment services are not operational, the application and payment must be completed through the manual procedure notified by the Immigration Services Office.
- The category page states that the transit permit is issued with a validity of seven days and single entry, and the maximum stay is 14 days. The transit permit does not grant the right to work. A person who wishes to stay longer than 14 days, work, or change the purpose of travel must apply for the appropriate substantive visa and pay the relevant fee.
Update History
